Basic Guinea Pig Care
In my new home I will need:-
- A hutch and run if I am to be outside.
- A cage if I am to be living indoors and an outside run for my exercise.
- A water bottle.
- A heavy food bowl as I like to stand on my bowl and don’t want it tipping over.
- A dustpan and brush so you can clean me out.
- Toys for me to play with like:-
- Tunnels for me to hide in.
- Balls with bells inside so I can throw it around.
- Chew sticks for me to nibble on to help my teeth.
I regularly need:
- Lots of newspaper for the bottom of my hutch.
- Dust extracted wood shavings (because the dust irritates my eyes).
- Hay (NOT straw).
- I have been fed on ‘Pets at Home’ Guinea Pig Nuggets. If you would like me to eat something else please introduce it gradually as I can get an upset tummy if its is done too quickly.
I cannot produce my own vitamin C and will get ill without it, so I will also need:
- A constant supply of fresh water every day with vitamin C drops (or powder)
- A regular (preferably daily) portion of fruit and vegetables including:
- Broccoli
- Peppers
- Bananas
- Honeydew melon
- Carrots
- Cucumber
- Fresh grass (not cuttings)
- NO potatoes, they make me very ill
I love your blog! I'm looking for a baby guinea pig, soft and silky fur, and mix colour, so il keep checking your blog for updates. X
